POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing for L&D/O/B/GYN, the Nurse Educator participates as a member of the Labor and Delivery and OB/GYN in the orientation of new staff and identification, assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of educational needs for all staff members. The Nurse Educator also routinely provides direct patient care as a staff nurse.

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE *

Education required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Education preferred:

  • Master's degree in Nursing.

    Experience required:

  • A minimum of five years of nursing experience in neonatal intensive care nursery.

    Experience preferred:

  • Five years experience in L&D/OB/GYN with two years as a staff educator. Advanced training in techniques of neonatal intensive care nursing.

    Skills required:

  • Written and verbal communication skills; basic computer skills including Word, Excel, and Power Point. Utilization of audio-visual materials.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required:

  • Registered Nurse license by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. If compact license held, RN is required to obtain a Texas RN license within 90 days of their hire date.

  • Current certification as a BLS course C or D provider.

  • NRP certification

    Preferred:

  • NRP instructor

  • NCC (or ANCC) certification.
