HARRIS COUNTY Nurse Practitioner in Houston, Texas

Position Description

Harris County Sheriff's Office, the largest sheriff's office in Texas and the third largest in the Nation is seeking experienced caring and compassionate nursing professionals to work at the clinics of our various Jail facilities. The Nurse Practitioner will provide expanded primary health care services for a case load of patients in the Family Health area of clinical specialization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the medical plan of care with the nursing plan of care
  • Secures and evaluates medical health and developmental history of the patient
  • Discriminates between normal, normal variations, and abnormal deviations by specific screening tests and refers patients with abnormal findings to appropriate members of the health care team
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings obtained by history, physical screening, and behavioral assessments and, in collaboration with the designated physician, implements an appropriate management plan
  • Collaborates with designated physician and to implement appropriate management plan
  • Executes orders, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as assigned by physician in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standard
  • Provides health maintenance and anticipatory guidance
  • Administers medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Assists with the provision of in-service education to nursing staff and supervises nurse practitioner students
  • Adheres to internal controls for the Health Services Division
  • Performs other duties as required Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited school

  • Licensed by the State of Texas Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the National Certification Corporation.
  • CPR certification
  • Good physical health
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job which include standing, walking, lifting and transporting
  • Visual acuity must fall within Texas Driver's License requirements
  • In exerting these functions, the incumbent must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects Continued employment is contingent on compliance with State of Texas Board of Nursing requirements for continuing license.

Preferences

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Experience working in a correctional/jail facility clinic
