St. Joseph Health Chemotherapy Pharmacy Technician (Certified IV) in Lubbock, Texas
Job Summary: Preparation of IV admixtures via aseptic technique under the supervision of a pharmacist. Job responsibility consists of a minimum of 50% of preparation of cytotoxic agents such as chemotherapy, anti-neoplastics, biological and hormone agents including investigational research drugs. Proficient in regulatory 797 guidelines in the maintenance of the IV room. Must be diligent in record keeping of drug compounding and waste records and adherence to storage and disposal of all medical infusion pharmaceuticals and supplies.Essential Functions:1. Reconstitutes IV admixtures including cytotoxic drugs and support medication in compliance with established USP 797 aseptic guidelines.2. Performs all calculations necessary to prepare IV admixtures including cytotoxic an investigational research drugs under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.3. Demonstrates knowledge of special requirements for the handling of cytotoxic drugs including the expertise of the use of closed cytotoxic mixing and dispensing systems.4. Adherence to USP 797 and/or Texas State Board Pharmacy (TSBP) requirements in cleanliness of the IV preparation rooms to include the biological safety cabinets.5. Diligent in the record keeping of drug compounding and waste records.6. Maintains and ensures biological safety cabinets are operating and certified.7. Diligent in the record keeping of temperature and IV room logs in accordance to TSBP and USP 797 requirements.8. Observes proper procedure for the disposal of sharps and chemotherapy wastes.9. Remove expired IV medications and supplies from stock, disposing per policy.10. Assists with purchases and stocks all pharmaceuticals and related infusion supplies in specific storages areas according to labeling to include maintaining accurate accounting of receipts per policy and TSBP.Minimum Position Qualifications: Education:High School Education or equivalentLicense/Certification: IV Certification with 40 hours of sterile pharmaceutical compounding education: through a 40 hour in house certification conducted by the Covenant Health System department of pharmacy (within 30 days of hire)Possesses Certification Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and Pharmacy Technician Registration issued by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Continued certification and registration is to be maintained.Preferred Position Qualifications: IV Certification with 40 hours of sterile pharmaceutical compounding education must be completed by: An American Council of Pharmaceutical Education approved course of study.
